A Turkish mayor has announced plans to dig up the deceased in his local cemetery and rebury them standing up.

Peki, nasıl oluyor da, "the deceased" = "ölüler" anlamı veriyor? 1. past participle, sıfat işlevli... 2. "the + sıfat", çoğul isim, sınıf ismi yapar...

Örnek: The rich get richer as the poor beget more and more children. = Fakirler gitgide daha çok çocuk sahibi oldukça, zenginler daha zenginleşirler...

Yeri gelmişken: Yukarda "mayor" = "belediye başkanı" sözcüğünün okunuşunu gördünüz. Şimdi söyleyeceklerimin bu sözcükle bir ilişkisi yok: Fakat, çoğu tıp mensubunun Türkçe'deki "mayör" (tıp) teriminden dolayı, İngilizce'deki "major" sözcüğünü yanlış telaffuz ettiklerine tanık oluyorum. Doğrusu: /MEY-cı/... Aman dikkat...

Lütfü Efe, mayor of the north-western town of Yahya in Susurluk, has altered his own will to make sure he is buried standing up when he dies.

A Dutch funeral director has sacked a hearse driver for losing a coffin on the way to a funeral.

The driver was on his way to a cemetery in Amsterdam when the back door of his hearse suddenly opened and the coffin fell out.

The driver did not notice anything amiss and he carried on to the cemetery, leaving the coffin in the middle of the road, reports Het Parool.

A woman was caught trying to steal a mobile phone in a shop in Taipei when it rang inside her bra.

The 52 year-old woman panicked when her bosom started ringing and vibrating in front of other customers.

A police spokesman said: "She attempted to cover the strange scene with her handbag and dash out of the shop, only to be blocked by the shopkeeper, who was looking everywhere for her lost cellphone."

The collection of about 3,000 objects includes both real and false teeth, needles, fish hooks, nails, glass and pieces of metal.

The doctors, of the clinical hospital in the city of Irkutsk, say most of them were eaten accidentally, reports NTV. They decided to put them in an exhibition at the hospital to warn patients to be more careful.

A telephone sexline worker in Romania was attacked by one of her regulars after he discovered what she really looked like.

Residents of a town in southern India have flocked to catch a glimpse of a child with moles in the form of an Islamic prayer.

Blonde jokes are set to be made illegal in Bosnia under new laws that will enable women to sue people who make jokes about their hair colour.

The gender equality law, due to come into effect within the next two months, will make it an offence to tell jokes about women based on their hair colour.

Savima Terzic, director of the International Group for Human Rights, told Bosnian daily newspaper Nezavisne Novine: "The new law on gender equality would enable blonde women to sue anyone who tells jokes that offend them, even if those jokes were just based on the colour of their hair."

Rok Grubu Sahnede İntihar Planlıyor

An alternative rock band from Florida claims it'll feature a live suicide during a concert next month... Tampa Outfit Hell on Earth says a terminally ill member of a right-to-die group planned to commit suicide on stage during the concert on October 4.

 

alternative rock = alternatif rok (Meğer İngilizce öğrenmek ne kolaymış, di mi?)... band = müzik grubu, cazbant, bando... to claim = iddia etmek, öne sürmek... to feature = ana gösteri olarak sunmak... "a live suicide" = Kulağa ne derece ilginç geliyor = "sahnede, canlı yayında" şeklinde çevirebiliriz sanırım... terminally ill = ölüm döşeğinde, ölümcül hasta ("terminale mi gidiyor!!)... right-to-die group = insanın ölümü seçme hakkı olması gerektiği tezini savunan dernek... to commit suicide = intihar etmek...

 

Their website says the person's identity won't be released until the day of the concert at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg. The site didn't say how the person would commit suicide.

The band claims the "volunteer" wanted to die onstage to "raise awareness for dying with dignity".
