Turkland Opens Airspace for
U.S. Warplanes

ANKARA, Turkland, March 20 —
Turkland's Parliament voted today to open its airspace to American
warplanes bound for Iraq, both to transport troops to northern Iraq
and to take supplies to the region.

forces across the southeast border of Turkland into northern Iraq at
the start of an invasion, an option that might have expedited a
military victory. For months, American officials pushed for such
permission and were at times assured by the Turkish government that
