I have been criticised, on
and off, for disregarding the IPA system, or any other internationally accepted
phonetics alphabet, in favour of an over-simplified concoction of my own
device...
(on and off = arasıra, arada bir...)
Arada bir,
uluslararası kabul gören IPA veya herhangi diğer bir fonetik alfabesi
yerine, kendi uyduruğum, aşırı basitleştirilmiş bir "sistem" kullandığım
için eleştirilmişimdir.
My argument
has been, 1) that even a relatively broad system of transcription (let
alone a reasonably narrow one) proves a truly tiresome exercise for the
non-professional; and, 2) that we already have certain symbols in the
Turkish alphabet that can profitably be used instead of rather
strange- and formidable-looking international specimens...
("narrow"
& "broad" transcription = "ayrıntılı" ve "daha az ayrıntılı" fonetik yazı
dizgeleri...)
Tercih
ettiğim bu uygulamadaki savunmam iki nokta üzerine oturmaktadır: 1) Özel
mesleki ilgisi olmayan kimseler için fonetik işaretleri öğrenmek
sıkıcı bir iştir; 2) Bu alfabelerde kullanılan kimi tuhaf görünümlü
uluslararası işaretleri, biz kendi alfabemizde kolaylıkla
karşılayabiliyoruz.

A short quiz, linking
countries with their capital cities... Transcribed first in the IPA
alphabet, and then in that of my humble own... This is in no way to
suggest that mine is "better" or "more correct"... All I mean to say is
that it is simple to learn for the average member in our Group -- and,
it's perfectly workable...
