 BELIEVE IT OR NOT !!

It's Official: Women Are Better Drivers Than Men !!

Women drivers are better than men according to the results of one of the biggest-ever studies of the driving habits of the two sexes.

ever = tüm zamanlardaki, şimdiye değin...

The team from the Vienna-based Organisation for Road Safety concluded in its study of thousands of accidents across Europe that "women drive better than men". Of all road accidents, less than 35% were caused by women.

team /ti:m/ = ekip, takım... Vienna-based = merkezi Viyana'da bulunan, Viyana'da kurulu... to conclude = bitirmek, sonlandırmak... concluded that ... = şu sonuca vardı ki... across = (burada) boydan boya, baştan başa, her tarafında...

The study authors also found that in the younger age group the difference was especially marked, as younger male drivers tended to overestimate themselves, while women were more careful. On average they had 25% fewer accidents.

marked = belirgin.... to tend = eğiliminde olmak... to overestimate = gözünde büyütmek.. to underestimate = küçümsemek... on average /æ-viric/ = ortalama olarak...

DİKKAT... "over" ve "under" getirerek yeni anlam kazandırılması bütün fiiller ve türevleri için de geçerlidir. Örnekler:  overreact = aşırı tepki göstermek; underreact = yeterince tepki vermemek...  overstatement = abartı, mübalaa; understatement = "Yaralı mısın, Mehmet?" "Hayır, komutanım, sadece sol kolum koptu!!"

And in addition to having fewer accidents, those involving females were usually less serious and the injuries usually less as the women had more often than not been driving slower, and more often wore seat belts.

those = "accidents" sözcüğünün yerine geçiyor, tekrarlamamak için... those involving females = kadınların karıştığı, içinde olduğu kazalar... as = (burada) = çünkü... ...olduğu için... more often than not = (deyim) çoğu zaman...

Mexico Sets Up Gay Football League !!

Meksika Nonoşlar Futbol Ligi Kurdu !!

to set up = kurmak, tesis etmek... DİKKAT: Gazete başlıklarında "present tense", "past" anlam verir...

Mexico has set up a gay football league for homosexual players... It has been reported that all match officials will also have to be gay.

match officials = hakemler ve diğer yetkililer... (Kısacası, "i**e hakem" diye bağırmanın bir esprisi kalmayacak!!)

The league is made up of five teams: The Clan, Fashion Team, The F***ers, G Strength and Your Mother.

They will compete for a cup and the chance to represent Mexico at the World Gay Football Championship.

Armed Robbery Charge After Man Fails To Buy Condoms !!

A Bosnian man's been arrested for the armed robbery of a chemist's shop that had refused to sell him condoms.

"fail + mastar" = Bu yapıya dikkat ediniz: İngilizce'de olumsuzluk belirtme yollarından birisidir. "failed to buy" = "didn't buy" veya (burada olduğu gibi) "couldn't buy"... armed robbery = silahlı soygun... chemist's shop (veya, kısaca the chemist's)= eczane...

The unnamed 33-year-old approached the shop in the city of Mostar after closing time and asked for a packet of condoms. After he was told the shop was closed -- dealing only with "urgent" requests -- he pulled a gun and demanded condoms from the chemist who refused and triggered an alarm.

unnamed = adı açıklanmayan... pulled a gun = silah çekti... trigger = tetik... to trigger = tetiklemek, başlatmak... trigger an alarm = alarma bastı...

Police detained the man nearby and charged him with armed robbery.

to detain = gözaltına almak... to charge = suçlamak... Deyiminiz: "to charge sm. with sth"...

Top Doc Backs Picking Your Nose And Eating It !!

Ünlü Doktor Eczacılık'a Destek Çıktı !!...

eczacılık = burnunu karıştırarak "hap" yapma !!

Picking your nose and eating it is one of the best ways to stay healthy, according to a top Austrian doctor.

Innsbruck-based lung specialist Prof Dr Friedrich Bischinger said people who pick their noses with their fingers were healthy, happier and probably better in tune with their bodies.

better in tune with their bodies = vücutları ile uyum içinde...

He says society should adopt a new approach to nose-picking and encourage children to take it up.

nose-picking = burun karıştırma... take sth up = başlamak ve benimsemek, hobi veya iş edinmek...

Dr Bischinger said: "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner.

"Mendilinizle ulaşamayacağınız yerlere parmağınızla ulaşır, burnunuzu çok daha temiz tutarsınız..." -- Eeeee?

"And eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system.

Çekip çıkardığınız kuru kalıntıları yemeniz, vücudun bağışıklık sistemini güçlendirmek için harika bir yoldur..." -- Böööö!!

"Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do..."

medically = tıbbi açıdan... makes great sense = çok mantıklıdır...

"In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine."

in terms of = açısından... when this mixture... etc. = Bu karışım barsaklara ulaşınca tıpkı bir ilaç işlevi yerine getirir...

"Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat it get a natural boost to their immune system for free."

constantly = sürekli olarak...  through far more complicated methods = çok daha karmaşık yöntemler yoluyla, vasıtasıyla, kullanarak... boost = hızla arttırma, büyük canlanma... immune system = bağışıklık sistemi... for free = bedavadan, bedavacıktan...

He pointed out that children happily pick their noses, yet by the time they have become adults they have stopped under pressure from a society that has branded it disgusting and anti social.

to brand = damgalamak... disgusting = iğrenç, tiksinç...

He said: "I would recommend a new approach where children are encouraged to pick their nose. It is a completely natural response and medically a good idea as well."

I would recommend = tavsiye ederim... to encourage = teşvik etmek, cesaretlendirmek... a completely natural response = tümüyle doğal bir tepki...

And he pointed out that if anyone was really worried about what their neighbour was thinking, they could still enjoy picking their nose in private if they still wanted to get the benefits it offered.

still = yine de... to enjoy = zevkini yaşamak, nimetlerinden yararlanmak... in private = yalnız başına iken, başkaları görmezken... get the benefits it offered = sunduğu yararlardarı elde etmek...
