sözlüklerde verilen "giymek" anlamı yanıltıcıdır. Doğru
karşılığı "giymiş ve üstünde olmak" olmalıdır. Nitekim,
"üstünden çıkarmak" (=to take off) eyleminin karşılığı "to put
on" dur. Dolayısıyla, "He is wearing..." dediğimizde, "üstünde
var" demiş oluyoruz. Bu fiil, bir sonraki "has a bright red
tie on" cümlesinde geçen "to have on" (=üstünde olmak) ile
birebir eşanlamlıdır.

yürütüyordum... "No.

dakika; çıkıyo işte şimdi."

benziyor. Deyimi not ediniz. Son derece işlek bir deyimdir:

(Nüans: Galiba gerçek bu.)...
"It looks like you're going to refuse the offer." = Öyle
anlıyorum ki teklifi reddedeceksin...

başardık galiba!...

DİKKAT: Simple Present
seçerseniz anlam çok tuhaflaşır: "Nezaman onu görsem, hemen
saçını tarar"!! Oysa burada söylemek istediğimiz,
"Nezaman onu görsem, hep saçını tarıyordur / taramaktadır." =
"Every time I see her, she is combing her hair."

"It sounds so much like
Âşık Sosyal Feryadî to me." = ...... gibi geliyor kulağıma...
["to me" bütün anlamı değiştiriyor. Olmasaydı, anlam şöyle
olacaktı: "Nekadar da çok benziyor ÂSF'ye." Burdaki haliyle
anlamı (hele bir de edalı söylerseniz): "Walla bana sorarsan
bu ÂSF'nin ta kendisi; bana yutturamazsın.]
