Adam's apple /Æ-dımz-Æ-pıl/

= gırtlak çıkıntısı, "Adem'in elması"

Adam's apple is the familiar anatomic feature in the front of the neck which is due to the forward protrusion of the thyroid cartilage. It is the largest and most prominent cartilage of the larynx. It takes its name from the biblical story about Adam and Eve, with the Serpent and the Apple. A piece of the forbidden fruit stuck in Adam's throat and created the anatomic "Adam's apple". [protrusion = çıkıntı... serpent = yılan...]

The thyroid cartilage tends to enlarge at adolescence, particularly in males. Enlargement of the Adam's apple is considered, like pubic hair growth, one of the secondary sexual characteristics.

Some people never seem to tire of trying to repair aglets. Why not simply replace the shoelaces? An occasion may arise, however, when you will have to place the aglets yourself, should you need to cut down your pair of inordinately long shoelaces down to a comfortable length.

Cannibalism, or anthropophagy, is the ingestion of human flesh by humans. Cannibalism, or more precisely, anthropophagy, was fairly widespread in many parts of the primitive world up until about a hundred years ago.

She broke into a twisted smile as she imagined that any self-respecting anthropophagous gentleman would possess not simply a partiality for human flesh, but also a well-developed fastidious taste for certain delicate parts of it.
